Adam's Pick

If anyone tells you that they can sum up Deerhoof's sound in a few words is a liar. With that in mind, I'll try to sell the band anyway: "Friend Opportunity" continues the sonic progression of musical lunacy that Deerhoof started way back in 1994. Putting any one (or two or three or four) genre titles towards a description of the music would be ludicrous. Vocalist Satomi Matsuzaki's high-pitched, Japanese infused singing may seem offputting, but it truly accentuates the madcap, experimental art rock. If you're in search of the perfect chill-out disc after a night of Justin Timberlake and John Mayer, look away now. Anyone in search of a possibly mindbending journey to Mars with a pack of maniacal merry-makers, look no further. It may not be "Apple O'" or "Milk Man," but its certainly worth repeat listens.
