Hello, this is Adan Figueroa, and I am host of The 5th Element Hip-Hop Show at Radio DePaul. The show sheds light on the buzzing Hip-Hop community in Chicago and serves as a template to highlight emerging artists in the local Hip-Hop scene. In the past we have interviewed names like Mick Jenkins, theWHOevers, Saba and Pivot Gang, Phero, Retrospect, Towkio, Scheme, Leather Corduroys (Kami and Joey), ShowYouSuck, Vic Spencer, Chris Crack, Lili K., Add-2, Kweku Collins, among countless others Chicago based Hip-Hop artists. We have had a great track record with Chicago based artists and use our show as a platform to not only create exposure but as well as create a dialogue and humanize the interactions and interviews we have with these artists
Much of the influences of the show specifically are all based off the city of Chicago. We truly try to serve emerging artists in the city and provide a template to maximize their exposure. In years past we focused more on the music side of the show and we have emerged in the conversation piece as well in ensuring we are having though provoking conversations with our guests to get to know them, as well as introduce them to new audiences. We come from a social justice approach in Hip-Hop, our focus is the 5th element of Hip-Hop, knowledge. We hope to enlighten our audience to new music, discussion topics, and and bring them into the conversation of why Chicago single-handedly has the most dynamic music scene in the country, and it starts with our Hip-Hop scene.
Personally, my favorite artists have been individuals that use their words and lyrics to inspire and empower others around them to do better for themselves and others around them.
